A Former Nigerian Governor To Sue MTN Over Unsolicited Messages And Fraudulent Deductions

Recently, Airtel NG was ordered to pay Mr. Emmanuel Anene the sum of N5 million over unsolicited messages.

Now, the former Military Governor of Kaduna State, Rtd. Col. Abubakar Dangiwa Umar wants to sue MTN over unsolicited messages, and false deductions — this time, MTN played a wrong trick on the wrong person.

The former Governor claims that he had made complaints about the problem but to no avail.
To prove his claims, he forwarded the last messages he received on Saturday:

The first message reads: “Yello, you have downloaded the Callertune CHECK YOUR ALERT by TK SWAG for N50.00. This tune expires on 2016-12-09. To delete the tune, send del0733736”

The second one says: “Dear Customer, you have successfully subscribed to Laugh Out Loud and N50.00 deducted from your account. Your service will be renewed on 2016-11-18. To cancel, text STOP LOL to 55006. Enjoy!”

The problem for our Retired Colonel Umar is not about the deducted N50, but that the practice continued despite his complaints. He also stated that MTN stands to make about N3.5 billion that is N50 X 70 million subscribers on a weekly/monthly basis which most of the subscriptions are done without the knowledge of the customer and continue to deduct their airtime after every recharge or at the sight of a swelling account balance.

Choi! MTN don enter am! Messing with a military personnel no be garri o! We pray all these service providers are not going to fire all their workers over this message wahala!
